Kate Middleton named Olympic Ambassador
Kate Middleton will join her husband, Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry as ambassadors for the London 2012 Olympics. The royal trio will represent Paralympics GB and Team GB at various events before and during the official Olympic games. Kate’s goal will be to hype up the games and make them cool. A spokesperson for Kate says, “The Duchess has always been a keen sportswoman and is, like everyone, greatly looking forward to the Olympics being held in this country.” Kate’s love for all things sports makes her the perfect choice for the ambassadorship.
An aide for the Duchess explains, “The Royal Family has always had a connection with the Olympic movement, and this is just taking that one step further.” Kate will join 27 veterans of the Olympics in her role as an ambassador. William is the speaker in the family and released a statement, “Catherine, Harry and I are honored to be ambassadors for Team GB and Paralympics GB.” He gushes about his wife’s first official role, “We are hugely looking forward to this incredible sporting competition, but are also looking beyond next summer’s Games to the springboard it will provide for future success.”
A spokesperson for the British Olympic Association says, “It is a great motivation for Team GB that the Duke and Duchess and Prince Harry are supporting their efforts next year.” Having the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge cheering them on should certainly give them an extra incentive! The Paralympics Association is thrilled to have the support of the young Royals as well, “We’re sure that the presence of their Royal Highnesses will help us achieve this goal, and it will give the athletes a tremendous lift to know that they are going to be supporting them.”
Zara Phillips may find herself associated with the Olympics as well, but in a different capacity. She has a chance of making it into the equestrian competition. London is gearing up to host the games this summer. Tickets are nearly impossible to get without royal or diplomatic connections, which has incited furious outrage.
